Research Interests

Dr. Matt Staid’s research interests include the mineralogical mapping of the lunar surface and the evolution of the lunar crust’s mineralogical properties.

Professional History

Dr. Staid worked as a co-investigator on NASA’s Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) which acquired imaging spectrometer data of the lunar surface aboard India’s Chandrayaan-1 satellite.   As a member of the M3 Science Team, Dr. Staid has participated in instrument calibration and validation activities and scientific investigations of the returned data.   He supported the delivery of calibrated radiance and reflectance data to NASA’s Planetary Data System for all phases of the mission.  Dr. Staid also participated in collaborative data calibration efforts with scientists from the Japanese SELENE/ Kaguya mission and the SIR2 instrument on Chandrayaan-1.
