A coordinated communication and public engagement strategy allow a scientific team to clearly and thoroughly connect their research to the public. This can be done through outreach events, educational seminars, social media, outreach kits, and connecting local scientists with the public. These events and interactions not only inspire people, but gives individuals confidence in their ability to ask questions and figure things out for themselves while being up to date on exciting, cutting edge research. Many of these public engagement events require a logistical know how, which is a skill that can also be applied to scientific field research. Logistics coordination benefits a field team by allowing teams to be larger for increased collaboration, and by increasing clarity and effectiveness of the field excursion. Public engagement and logistical support for a scientific team can increase the efficiency and impact of the whole group.
