Educational Programs

  • PSI offers professional development workshops for elementary and middle-school teachers during the school year to provide in-depth knowledge of fundamental concepts in astronomy, geology, and planetary science. These workshops have been implemented within the Tucson Unified School District and their success has spawned similar workshops in other states.

  • Project DiGERR in southern Australia is an initiative to engage and promote science outreach through the professional development of science teachers. Workshops involve the use of materials to provide teachers and students with a tangible sense of geoscience research and the scientific process.

  • Establishment of children's programs with local organizations such as the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum and the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona that focus on topics in earth and planetary science.

  • Offer real research experience to university-level students through undergraduate internships. Interns at PSI come from a variety of sponsors such as NASA, higher educational institutions, and public/private organizations.
