Dr. Matthew Wenger has been involved in science education and public outreach since 1995. His career in science education began as a volunteer for the Physics Van outreach program at the University of Illinois, and he was an educator for informal programs at the Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum in Chicago, IL from 2000-2003. He continued his work with informal learning environments at Flandrau Science Center at the University of Arizona and conducted research on family learning at night-time telescope observing events, often known as star parties. He completed a postdoctoral research program at Oregon State University in free-choice STEM learning where he worked to characterize the science learning infrastructure in the UK. In addition to his work at PSI, he teaches large-scale online space-science classes (MOOCs), and works as an evaluator for science education programs around the country. His current interests include informal science education, program evaluation, and family learning.
