Dr. Oded Aharonson's research is broad and includes addressing questions in Mars surface geology, crustal structure, Mercury’s geophysics and magnetic field, impact cratering on various scales, Titan’s lakes and climate, and planetary ice. He is a member of various spacecraft investigations of solar system bodies, including the Mars Exploration Rovers, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, and the Cassini mission to Titan, the Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer, and is the lead scientist for Israeli mission to the Moon, SpaceIL.
Dr. Aharonson received his Bachelors' and Masters' degrees in Applied and Engineering Physics from Cornell University, served in the Israeli Air Force, and after earning a PhD from MIT (2002). He was a Professor of Geological and Planetary Science at the California Institute of Technology before joining PSI in 2014. He now resides in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he also holds an appointment and directs the Center for Planetary Sciences at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Aharoson has been an Editor for Icarus and The Mars Journal and an Associate Editor for Geophysical Research Letters.
